Statement
Do you remember collecting Beanie Babies, dying of dysentery on the Oregon Trail during computer lab, and the thrill of a Scholastic book fair at your school?
Felicia Fraser’s show ‘90s Kid’ sent you back to the 1990s. You are invited to get lost in nostalgia and recall the feeling of being a kid. It was a time of freedom, friendship, and believing anything was possible. It was the last age before the internet, a monoculture, when everyone watched the same shows with the same commercials at the same time. Options were not limitless, you had the hottest toy or else you were left being bored. You stayed out until dusk on your bike with friends feeling like you owned the world. To imagine yourself back in that time is to rekindle that flame of invincibility and wonder in your current life. Let’s remember what we liked about living in the 90s and bring those positive values back into our current lives. The joy of simple things, allowing time to be bored, and having the patience needed to wait a full week before the next episode of Friends. We all need a bit more 90s in our lives today.
The art exhibition was held at Slice of Life Gallery in Vancouver BC from May 25-30th, 2023
